Man arrested after shots fired on Cherry Street

The gunfire damaged a window but no one was injured.

MACON, Ga. — A man was arrested after firing shots on Cherry Street in downtown Macon, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

They say on Saturday night, shots were fired after a heated fight between people in a venue on Cherry Street.

It happened at 10:25 p.m.

Originally, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened outside JBA

The owner of JBA, Brandon Lawler, called 13WMAZ and said his business had nothing to do with the shooting. He says the shooting was a result of a domestic incident at a venue next door.

13WMAZ then reached back out to the Sheriff's Office and they later confirmed the fight began during a private birthday party happening in a building next door to the bar.

The gunfire from the shooting damaged a window at the bar but no one inside or outside was injured.

The suspect fled the area but was apprehended shortly afterward and the gun was taken from him.

55-year-old Darrell Bernard Washington of Macon was arrested and taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Washington was charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, first-degree criminal damage to property, first-degree cruelty to children, and battery.

He currently does not have a bond.

Anyone with information in reference to this incident is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
