A man is dead Friday after an east Macon car crash, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

They say it happened just before 6 p.m. Friday evening on Kitchens Street.

A man was driving an older Ford F-150 pickup truck when they lost control of their vehicle, went off the road and hit a tree, the press release said.

They say the driver was then ejected from his vehicle.

He was driving northbound on Kitchens Street towards Shurling Drive, the press release said.

The driver, who was the only person involved in the crash, was pronounced dead on the scene by Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley.

The man was unidentified for several hours. Just before 10 p.m., the sheriff's office says they have identified the victim as a 45-year-old of Macon.

The name is not being released at this time because the next of kin has not been notified, the press release said.

The crash is still under investigation, and the Bibb County Sheriff's Office says information could change as the investigation moves forward.
