MACON, Ga. — Part of a south Macon day care center is in ruins after a tree came tumbling down on its roof. Peek-a-Boo Learning Center Direct Sheryl Lawrence says no one was inside the daycare's second building across the street when it happened.
"We heard a loud, booming sound," said Lawrence.
Bibb County sheriff's deputies blocked off a road next to the day care because a live power line came down.
Parent Carrie Brown says her heart sank when she saw the damage as she came to pick her kids up.
"Coming down the street, I was just in total shock," said Lawrence.
She says she was thankful no one was injured.
"If something was to happen to them, I would have been devastated, not only for mine, but for all the children that attend this daycare," said Brown.
Georgia Power crews came to repair downed live power lines.
"You run over that line or something that happens to you, it can be much worse than it could have been," said Brown.
Director Sheryl Lawrence says everyone went to a safe part of the main building they were in during the storm. She says staff asked parents to pick up their kids early to avoid driving in the rain at night.

"We are concerned about cars hitting water and turning over. We are just concerned about our parents and children as a whole," said Lawrence.
Staff at the day care say they used to use the damaged building for after school programs and summer programs.
