Crawford County Sheriff: Victim found dead on the side of the road identified, investigation underway

The woman was found dead on the side of the road last Thursday on Smith Chapel Road.

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Georgia — A woman who was found dead on the side of the road in Crawford County last week has been identified as a 35-year-old woman from Crawford County, according to Crawford County Sheriff Lewis Walker.

They say Callie Brooke Goolsby, 35, was found dead on Thursday on Smith Chapel Road near the intersection of Hope Road.

A Crawford County Roads Department employee was working on the road when they stumbled on Goolsby's body, the press release said.

At the time, Coroner Sheldon Mattox said that the case is being investigated as a potential homicide.

Walker said he asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to lead the investigation.

It comes on the heels of a number of deaths in Crawford County.

Danny Kelly, 64, was killed Friday during a UTV accident in the 3600 block of Jackson Road, the Crawford County Sheriff's Office confirmed over the weekend.

Then, on Wednesday, a body was found near the Flint River, but they say foul play is not suspected.
