Man found dead in Fort Valley with gunshot in his chest, police department says

The Fort Valley Police Department said it happened around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning near Green Street and South Camellia Boulevard in Fort Valley, according to a Fort Valley Police Department press release.

The release said the police were called out to a fight within the 400 block of Boulevard Street around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

It added that, when they arrived, they found, according to Peach County coroner Kerry Rooks, Naun Mendez Melendez, 37, with a gunshot in his chest. Despite efforts to resuscitate the man, they were unsuccessful. Next of kin has been informed.

The police department's Chief of Police DJ Flores ruled the incident a murder. If anyone has more information, they can call the Fort Valley Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at 478-825-3383.
