FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Two people are behind bars for allegedly shooting a sleeping 9-year-old in Fort Valley, according to a press release from the Fort Valley Police Department.
They say the shooting took place on July 12 during the overnight hours at the Lakeview Apartments. According to a police report, it happened at around 1:30 a.m. at the apartments on Edwards Street.
The report says the 9-year-old was lying in bed when they were struck by gunfire.
Now, two people — one person from Macon, another from Fort Valley — were arrested and charged in the shooting the police department says.
They say 25-year-old Deshard Postell of Macon was already in custody for an unrelated case. He was charged with terroristic threats on July 23, according to Fort Valley police chief DJ Flores.
Another suspect, 19-year-old Jackson Gore, was a little more difficult to locate, according to the press release. Ultimately, they found Gore in Bartow County and was arrested by the U.S. Marshals. Flores says Gore was arrested several days ago.
The 9-year-old was shot in her right shoulder and she was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment. Flores says she has been released from the hospital and is back home.
Fort Valley Police say they are both charged with aggravated assault, but the police department is also looking to pursue more charges against them.
