Daughter killed by father during fight in Hawkinsville after argument, GBI says

The GBI says that the father and daughter got into a fight and it eventually ended in the daughter's death

HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. — A father is accused of killing his daughter after an argument in Hawkinsville. That's according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Pulaski County Coroner Fred Clark.

The GBI says Pulaski County Sheriff deputies responded to the scene on Ruby Road at around 5:15 a.m. Thursday morning.

According to the press release, Herman Sewell, 67, and Allegra Sewell, 26 — both from Cleveland, Ohio — had got into an argument. Eventually, they say the argument got physical and at some point, Allegra became unresponsive.

Allegra was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her father was identified on the scene and was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter.

A deputy Clark spoke with told him that Herman claims Allegra hit him first before he hit her.

It is not fully clear why the father and daughter were in Hawkinsville and what injuries led to Allegra's death. Clark says they need to wait for the results from the GBI Crime Lab to confirm the cause of death.

The GBI says the investigation into Allegra's death is ongoing. If you have any information, you can call the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Eastman at 478-374-6988. The GBI also accepts anonymous tips by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477).

When the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Oconee Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
