4-year-old dies after crawling into car in Fitzgerald

The woman is booked at the Ben Hill County Jail.

FITZGERALD, Ga. — A mother is in custody after her child died, according to a press release from the GBI.

On Wednesday, the Fitzgerald Police Department asked the GBI to investigate the death of a 4-year-old child.

The release says the child left the apartment unsupervised and eventually got into a car. He was later found unresponsive inside the car. 

The boy was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The GBI arrested and charged 30-year-old Kelsey Monaco of Fitzgerald with cruelty to children and felony murder. 

She is booked at the Ben Hill County Jail, the release says.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Cordelle Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
