Locals react after deputies find human remains in Monroe County

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says they believe it is the body of missing 18-year-old Gabby Dixon.

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — The Monroe County Sheriff's Department found human remains near a construction site on Tuesday, and they say they believe it's the body of 18-year-old Gabby Dixon.

Dixon has been missing since last October. Two men are in custody and are being charged with her death. One of them is Reginald Harris, the father of Dixon's children and he's charged with murder.

The other man is 19-year-old Jatarvious Deangelo Price.

He was arrested back in November and charged with making false statements to investigators. Now, he's back in custody being charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Shirley Appling lives near where construction workers found the remains.

“I'm in real disbelief, real disbelief,” Appling said.

Jim Middlebrooks lives nearby, as well. He says he's been following Dixon's case for the past year.

“It was very shocking all this time," Middlebrooks said. "They were looking for her on the news search team and she wound up right here all the way from Macon to Juliette."

The remains have been sent to the GBI to be positively identified.

"I ride my ATV through here all the time and like I said I've never smelled anything or noticed anything out this way," Middlebrooks said.

Neighbors were shocked that a crime and discovery like this could happen on their street.

"I have never seen nothing like that over here," Appling said.
