The semi truck hit a guardrail and flipped onto the passengers side. The driver was brought to a hospital with injuries, while the passenger died

FORSYTH, Ga. — A person is dead after a single semi truck wreck in Monroe County on Thursday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

They said that, when travelling south on I-75, the driver of the semi truck lost control and hit a guardrail before the exit near Johnstonville Road in Forsyth.

The truck, after hitting the guardrail, flipped over onto the passenger's side. The passenger was killed in the accident.

The driver had injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said the accident happened around 9:30 a.m.

They said that, at one point, both lanes were blocked off and there was a 15-mile backup all the way back to Bill Gardner near exit 212 in Locust Grove.

As of right now, there is still traffic on I-75. The Georgia Department of Transportation recommended drivers use alternate routes, like U.S. 23 or U.S. 41 South.

The Sheriff's Office is continuing to look into this incident. 13WMAZ will update the story as more information is revealed.
