Two men charged in death of Macon toddler — including daughter's father

Macon-Bibb Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley says the 20-month-old child was beaten badly and appeared to be stabbed multiple times.

MACON, Ga. — Two men now face murder charges in the death of a 20-month-old toddler.

The Bibb County Sheriff's office says one of them is the child's father: 19-year-old Akiem Jamal Jordan.

The other person is 21-year-old Rahem Devar Ferrell.

Just after midnight, deputies responded to a fight in the 3800 block of Flamingo Drive. The sheriff’s office says that the toddler's mother, Shandrea Spencer, was the one who reported it.

Spencer says Jordan fought with and injured her mother, then took her their daughter, Bella.

Deputies found the father, daughter, and Ferrell at the Timber Pointe Apartments on Old Clinton Road.

It was 3 a.m. when the sheriff's office called Macon-Bibb Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley out to the apartments.

“I was just told that it was a homicide,” Miley explained. “I had no idea that it was going to be this horrific scene.”

Miley says when deputies arrived at the Timber Pointe Apartments to arrest Jordan, 20-month-old Bella, Jordan's daughter, was still in her car seat.

“She had various injuries on her and what appeared to be many stab wounds on her. It was just terrible to see her like that,” Miley said.

He says over his 34-year career, he's seen many gruesome crimes and scenes. However, he says he never gets used to the ones involving kids.

“I can’t imagine somebody doing this to this innocent child who was a couple of months short of her two-year birthday,” he explained.

We spoke to neighbors in the apartments about what happened. Most said they did not know the homicide had happened at all, but they were all shocked to hear of the sad news.

“It is a sad statement on this day, which is Valentine's Day, which is supposed to be about love,” Miley said.

We went to the Flamingo Drive home where the fight began and no one was home.

Akiem Jordan is charged with murder and three counts of aggravated assault.

Raheem Ferrell faces murder and aggravated assault charges.

The sheriff's office says they're still investigating how Ferrell is connected to Bella's family.
