Driver crashes during chase with Bibb County deputies on I-75 North near Spring Street

Deputies say the chase started when someone tried to take contraband into the Abbeville jail.

MACON, Ga. — Early Wednesday morning, Bibb County deputies chased a man on Interstate 75 North.

Around 4:00 a.m., the driver crashed at the interchange near the entrance to I-16.

13WMAZ's Katelyn Heck drove behind the wreck, and deputies on site said the chase started after the driver tried to take contraband to the jail in Abbeville.

Deputies blocked lanes on the interstate as more deputies and an ambulance arrived.

Around 4:20 a.m., traffic started moving again.
