MACON, Ga. — "Play as if we are 0-0," is what head coach Jordan Brooks tells his softball players at Tattnall Square Academy.
The Trojans are playing with a chip on their shoulders. Tattnall made it to the state championship game last season, but came up short of the state title. They lost 13-4 to Westfield in 2023.
Now, the Trojans are carrying themselves differently.
"They're pretty determined. They show it at practice," Coach Brooks said. "Their work ethic in the weight room, on the field, their whole aspect to life, when it comes to softball, is really driven toward trying to finish on top."
Tattnall is taking this year by storm. The team is 13-1 on the season, following a 20-point shutout win over Mount De Sales Tuesday.
For Brooks, it's about playing at the caliber of competition the coaching staff looks for.
"I don't really measure us by who we play. I measure us by what are, what my expectations and our coaching staff's expectations are for them," Brooks said. "And that's from what they've shown us, whether it's at practice, in games, early in the year."
Coach Brooks said part of the battle is doing the little things right. However, one of the biggest differences is the senior leadership that is showing up on the diamond this season.
