FFN Roundup: Warner Robins nets a big win at McConnell-Talbert, HoCo wide receiver shows out in win

Here's a breakdown of the top games and performances during Week 3 of Football Friday Night

MACON, Ga. — Several Week 3 games of the high school football season came down to the wire.

Others were dominant performances and a few shutouts.

Here’s a full roundup of scores and highlights from the teams around Central Georgia

Game of the Week

Northside vs Warner Robins: The battle at McConnell-Talbert Stadium has always been a classic matchup for Central Georgia fans.

The two rivals matched up with plenty to prove. Northside had an undefeated record to hold onto, but Warner Robins had a chance to get its second win of the season. Ultimately, Warner Robins came out on top 34-12.

Rasean Dinkins, a three-star prospect committed to Georgia Tech as a defensive back, was the clear player of this game. His three touchdowns on offense and two interceptions on defense helped move the Demons to a 2-1 record this season and hand Northside its first loss.

The Demons got on the board early after senior quarterback Skyler Williams had a quick 6-yard pass to fellow senior Daymond Batts and another to Dinkins in the second quarter to lift the Demons to a 14-3 lead.

While Northside’s offense was struggling early to get on the board, their special teams stepped up in a big way. Junior Briston Blasingame took a blocked field 71 yards to the house for a massive Eagle touchdown.

The game was anyone’s to win after halftime. Warner Robins led 14-10, but if Northside could carve out a strong offensive drive, the Eagles had a shot.

However, the only points they would score was a safety at the start of the fourth quarter. Warner Robins’ defense, led by Dinkins and five-star Georgia Bulldog commit Isaiah Gibson, kept the Eagles offense off the board all game.

The Demons offense, however, found the offense three more times. Williams and Dinkins connected for another touchdown, while Dinkins and Tavis “Sweet Feet” English Jr. found the endzone on the ground.

Three Stars

Isaiah Mitchell, Houston County wide receiver: Four-star quarterback and Memphis commit Antwann Hill Jr. has found his favorite target this season.

Mitchell, HoCo’s leading receiver, continued his strong 2024 season, this time against the defending AAAA classification champions. He was the only Bear to reach the endzone all game in their 31-17 win over the once undefeated Perry Panthers.

Despite being on the road in a big rivalry matchup, Mitchell and Hill connected early and often and showcased an offense that has dazzled through just three games in the season. Mitchell found the end zone four times and had nearly 200 receiving yards in a performance likely to grab him some national attention.

Keith Hatcher, ACE head coach: The Academy for Classical Education head coach has his team off to a hot start.

ACE has had two back-to-back big wins over two Central Georgia teams, including a shutout and dominant 45-0 win over Jefferson County.

Hatcher has helped the Charter school reach 8-3 seasons the past two years, however after an early 2-0 record and 83 points scored already this season, the Gryphons are in a great spot early in 2024.

Clint Satterfield, Piedmont head coach: Piedmont's coach has also led his team to an early 2-0 record thanks to a shutout victory on Friday.

Piedmont, following a bye-week, grabbed the team’s second straight win and defeated Baconton 33-0.

Satterfield hasn’t had much success the past two seasons at the helm of Piedmont, however after gaining his 310th win as a head coach and getting his team to an undefeated record after two games, the Cougars appear to be heading in a positive direction in 2024.
