We set out to verify if violent crime is really going down in Bibb County.

The report shows homicides in Bibb County are down by 71 percent, so, yes, homicides are down.

If you look at all violent crimes, including rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults, violent crime through the end of May are down 2 percent.

That's six crimes fewer than last year out of more than 300 cases.

We verified homicides are down significantly throughout the county, but other violent crimes are not.

"Last year, every other week, we were having some kind of violent incident," said Davis.

2018 was the most violent year since consolidation. We're still way ahead of the violent crime rate for 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.

"Even though were short, we are answering the call. They're still working on the case of the Death Valley mayhem that happened a few weeks ago and we have a few suspects on that. We're hoping to have an arrest very soon," said Davis.

Davis says his deputies are working hard to catch the people responsible for that night of mayhem. He ensures that people in his department are working overtime to make up for the shortage and they're committed to keeping the community safe.
