WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A 15-year-old was arrested for breaking into Warner Robins High School and starting a fire in the school's multi-purpose room early Monday morning, but it's not the first time he broke into the school, according to a press release from the Warner Robins Police Department.
They say the teen was arrested in connection to the fire and break-in, which caused minor damage to the building but did not disrupt the school day.
According to the police, they say the teen "damaged several areas of the school" along with setting the fire.
The school's principal, Chris McCook, told parents that the fire "immediately" triggered the overhead sprinkler system. They say the vandalism took place at around 123:30 a.m. Monday morning.
But now, the teen was arrested but they say this is not his first break-in at Warner Robins High School.
They say that he had been linked to an Aug. 29 break-in at the school.
Warner Robins Police Lt. Eric Gossman said the teen was arrested in connection to both burglaries.
However, the Warner Robins Police Department encourages anyone with information about the break-in and arson to reach out to Detective Smith at 478-302-5380 or email him at easmith@wrga.gov.
McCook credited the quick response from the fire department and the school's maintenance staff who worked overnight to prepare the school for students' arrival in the morning.
