WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — At least one vandal started a "small" fire in a Warner Robins High School multipurpose room overnight after breaking into the school's campus, according to a message from the principal.
In a message to parents, Principal Chris McCook called parents to notify them of a case of vandalism that took place at around 12:30 a.m., including breaking into the school and starting a small fire in the multi-purpose room.
McCook says that the fire "immediately" set off the overhead sprinklers along with alerting the fire department. The principal says the fire did not cause much damage to the building.
He credited the quick response from the fire department and the school's maintenance staff who worked overnight to prepare the school for students' arrival in the morning.
"The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our number one priority," McCook said. "Our staff is committed to keeping today as normal as possible for our students. This incident will not take away the safe learning environment that our students deserve!"
McCook says that an investigation is underway and law enforcement has been on the school's campus to gather evidence.
However, in the message to parents, the principal says they have not yet identified the individual responsible for the fire.
