WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — What is summer without live music, food trucks and community events? The city of Warner Robins is already prepping for their annual Independence Day Celebration.
Scott Stapp, lead singer of Creed, and the band Jefferson Starship are returning to the big stage after being unable to perform last year because of stormy weather.
This year, the celebration features more than 20 vendors. One of those is Root 76 Cuisine. The food truck sits on Watson Boulevard Monday through Friday.
"We make everything from scratch. I've been a certified executive chef for almost 20 years," owner Jason Delasota says.
He is seasoned at taking orders and dishing them out hot. He says he's excited and ready to take on the massive dinner rush that comes with the festival.
"It's almost overwhelming with the amount of patrons and food vendors, but we're really excited to be a part of the city and the festivities," he says.
The heat doesn't kick him out of the kitchen. This is his third year serving food for the concert. He says it's always a good time.
"Before I started the food truck, Darius Rucker was here in town, a few years ago," Delasota says. "Since then it's been an amazing experience."
He says he's got a stacked menu prepared.
"We have buffalo chicken egg rolls, Philly cheese egg rolls. One of our signature dishes is beef tips and rice," he says.
He also says they'll have peach cobbler, catfish, burgers and more.
After eating a full meal, you may want some dessert. The sibling-owned business Brownbrook Market has you covered. They're taking their business from the Centerville Mall to McConnell Talbert.
"We're going to be bringing flavored honey sticks, flavored nuts, we have our freeze-dried candies," Joshua Westbrook, one of the siblings, says.
He and his family will have more than 25 flavors of freeze-dried candies, plus taffies and bars. His mother Kennethia Westbrook says they have already started preparing orders.
"We partner with some other small businesses, so we've been on the phone with them getting ready for the large crowd," she said.
They're excited to serve families while creating memories of their own.
"We've never gone as a family. We've driven by and gone 'Oh my gosh there's a lot of people here', but we've never gone as a family," Kennethia says.
You can try all of the food and treats these vendors have served up for you on Saturday, June 29. The gates will open at 6:00 p.m. but the show starts at 7:00 p.m.
