Human skull, chicken feet and more found in a bucket at Rose Hill appear to be tied to a ritual

There is a $1,000 reward being offered for information that leads to the person who had the items.

MACON, Ga. — Bibb County Sheriff’s and GBI forensic investigators are working to figure out how a human skull ended up in a bucket along with other strange items at a historic Macon cemetery.

Coroner Leon Jones says just before noon Wednesday a man discovered the bucket in a back corner of historic Rose Hill Cemetery near the river and called the coroner and staff at the cemetery.

There were a number of carved sticks, a rubber snake, chicken feet, and other items scattered around, including a human skull in a bucket.

Jones said the items in the bucket appear to be tied to some sort of ritual.

Jones is sending the skull to the GBI Crime Lab to see if they can possibly identify the person or at least figure out if it was collected from a grave, a crime scene, or a medical specimen, and whether the person died recently or long ago.

Joey Fernandez, a local cemetery preservationist, said they are offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads them to the person who had the items.
