ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport leaders are reporting that the airport set a new post-pandemic record.

A newly released traffic report reveals that the airport has had its largest passenger count since the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. The data is based on 2023 numbers, according to a release.

The numbers show that the airport has served nearly 105 million passengers, which recovers challenges that arose during the pandemic back in 2020.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens celebrated the airport's achievement.

"Hartsfield-Jackson's stellar performance in 2023 is a testament to our city's resilience and the Airport's pivotal role in the economic recovery,” Mayor Dickens said. “Our continued growth in passenger and aircraft operations showcases Atlanta's strength as a global transportation hub. We celebrate these accomplishments and look ahead to an even brighter future for the gold standard of airports."

According to a release, leaders said the airport's aircraft operations also grew by 7.1% -- reaching a total of 775,818 takeoffs and landings.

Airport General Manager Balram Bheodari said the recent growth is thanks to each member of the team that keeps operations going behind the scenes.

“The resilience shown by our team amid unprecedented challenges has fueled ATL's success in 2023,” he said. “We are immensely proud of our accomplishments and look forward to building on this momentum for an even more successful 2024," Bheodari said.

Hartsfield-Jackson's highest passenger volume happened before the pandemic in 2019, with over 110 million passengers traveling through the airport, according to the release.
