Four days after the shooting, Warner Robins police name man who shot, killed friend of his estranged wife

Anthony Jones, 26, is wanted for felony murder and aggravated assault.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Warner Robins Police have named the man they say killed a friend of his estranged wife.

Anthony Jerome Jones, 26, is wanted for felony murder and aggravated assault.

Police say he and his wife were separated and were in the process of divorcing when the shooting happened.

On Friday, he went to her home in the Huntington Hills subdivision where police say he shot and killed Damarion Harris.

"He entered the residence and went to the back of the residence before he shot our victim, Mr. Harris, one time before fleeing the scene," Clark said.

The 19-year-old was taken to Houston Healthcare where he died within an hour upon his arrival, Sgt. Justin Clark said.

However, Jones' identity was withheld for four days. Clark says that it was an intentional choice.

"When you're early on in the investigation, even if you have the identity of the suspect, certain investigative techniques go into trying to locate that suspect," Clark said. "If you put out through broadcasting who his name is, and things like that, that can cause the suspect to do some countermeasures to keep us from locating him in a timely manner."

According to Clark, this is a protocol.

In the past, when a suspect's name was released too soon, that can sometimes lead to crucial evidence being lost.

In this case, police say they delayed releasing Jones' name because the incident is a domestic case, and they don't think he's a threat to the public.

13WMAZ inquired about his weapon of choice — a gun — which he may still be armed with.

"It's always a threat when somebody has a gun and it's not as if he's going out to randomly target," Clark said. "This was a domestic situation where high tensions arose there's a lot of emotion, and he made the decision he made at the time, but he wasn't just going out, and going after random people."

If you see Jones, police say do not approach him — he could be armed.
