Museum in Macon hosts mid-Victorian classes and summer soireé resembling

The Cannonball House hosted classes where they made their own hair pomade, a ribbon band hairnet and how to make hair rats, braids and extensions from their own hair

MACON, Ga. — The Cannonball House hosted an event on Saturday that took attendees back-in-time to the mid-Victorian era.

The Museum welcomed women from ages 16 and up to participate in a wide range of mid-Victorian era events.

A key point of the event was to teach the around 30 women in attendance how to dress and have a look from someone from the 1800’s so they can attend mid-Victorian balls that require that appearance.

The museum held different events to create various items used in that era. They held a class, where they made their own hair pomade, a ribbon band hairnet and how to make hair rats, braids and extensions using old hair.

The participants, alongside a $40 entry fee, collected and brought their old hair from their hair brushes so they could make the hair rats, braids and extensions.

They then taught the women how to use these items to create hair styles used in the 1800’s.

Following the classes, the museum began hosting a summer soireé.

Attendees were required to wear period attire and to bring a food item to pair with the tea that was to be served at the event.

At the soireé, attendees can enjoy tea and snacks while having periodical readings, period card games and various conversation games with each other.

The soireé would be held in the museum’s parlors and dining room, so the general public could watch and get a taste of what a soireé would look like during the 1800’s.

The classes ran from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the soireé will last from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
