Baldwin County family trying to recover after weekend fire scorches house

Investigators say the fire happened around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

BALDWIN, Ga. — A fire destroyed one Baldwin County woman’s house this weekend. Investigators say the blaze started around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Ebony Greene lived in her home for two years and loved it.

She says she found smoke coming from her house, immediately got her kids outside and tried to call 911.

“I was trying to call 911 but for some reason it was like not going through.” she said. “So I had to call my children's father and he called 911 for me and there was a neighbor walking up and I asked them to call too.”

She says it took the fire trucks around 15 minutes, but it felt like forever. She also said by the time she got her children outside, she did not have time to grab her belongings.

“My grandfather's ashes were in there and that kind of really bothered me the most but all of my stuff was left in there,” she said.

She says she had cash, her cards, her laptop and her purse in the house at the time of the fire. All of it was destroyed.

Now, she says she just wants to find a place where she and her children can stay.

“I would like somewhere stable for me and my children to go back together to our lives and kind of go back to normal,” Greene says.

Her boys are with her father, and she says she is staying with a friend.

She started a GoFundMe to help her family recover, and her land lord gave her back half of her rent for the month.

The fire department is still investigating the fire.

If you want to donate to the GoFundMe, it is called Support Ebony's Family After Devastating Fire.
