'One of the biggest hidden secrets in Baldwin County' | How a Milledgeville food bank is serving the community

The food bank is open from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A Baldwin County couple came from humble beginnings. Now, they run a food bank that they say feels more like a grocery store.

Ramona Franklin and her husband Ernest Franklin have run a food bank in Baldwin County for more than a decade.

They say the food bank - which they started in the early years of their marriage - was all a part of God's plan for them when they became pastors.

"We want people to treat them the same way we treat other people," Ernest Franklin said. "We believe that you reap what you sow."

Ramona Franklin says they struggled with having enough money for basic necessities earlier in life.

"Before we got where we are, we experienced everything that other people experienced, food insecurity, clothing, finances, all of that," she said. "We do what we wanted done for us."

The Franklins partner with the Middle Georgia Food Bank in Macon and Georgia College and State University.

They supply not only food but also furniture and clothes, because they say they understand how expensive things can be.

"In order for you to have a ministry you need to have gone through something. Once you endure it, then you can understand how other people feel," Ernest Franklin said.

The Franklins say they want to always show love and want people to feel welcomed in their food bank.

They serve people at the food bank each Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. A photo ID is required to be eligible for service.

People can shop only once a month at the food bank, which is located at 200 Southside Drive in Milledgeville.

If you feel lead to donate, you can cash app $1NBWC. You can also send in money orders or donate food.
