53-year-old man killed in Byron house fire

The state fire marshal is looking into the accident.

BYRON, Ga. — A man is dead after a house fire in Byron Monday morning, according to Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks.

Rooks says 53-year-old Matthew David Austin was trapped inside his home during the fire. His home is located in the 300 block of Giles Road.

911 was called around 4 a.m. and Austin was pronounced dead around 8:30 a.m. 

The state fire marshal is looking into the fire. 

We reached out to Peach County Fire Chief Tim Bechtel, but he has not yet responded.
