COCHRAN, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation released more information about a death on Wednesday at a Cochran cotton gin.
According to a press release, they say at 9:10 a.m. 70-year-old Milton Mullis was hit with a piece of heavy equipment. He later died from the hit.
They say it happened when Mullis was working at the Cochran Oil Mill and Ginnery located on the 100 block of E. Ash Street in Bleckey County.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed to 13WMAZ that they have opened an investigation into the death.
Cotton gins like the one in Cochran generally run 24/7 during the busy fall harvest.
They're less busy during the spring and summer harvest.
Five years ago they told us they processed about 7,000 tons of cotton a year.
13WMAZ reached out to the owners of the Cochran Oil Mill and Ginnery on Wednesday. They've not returned our calls.
