COCHRAN, Ga. — The GBI and other agencies are investigating a death at a Cochran cotton gin.
It happened Wednesday at the Cochran Oil Mill and Ginnery on Ash Street.
Coroner James Mathis says a man was killed at the facility Wednesday, but he couldn't say more since the case was under investigation.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed to 13WMAZ that they have opened an investigation into the death.
So far law enforcement hasn't released many details on the victim or what happened.
Cochran Police and the Bleckley County Sheriff's Office were both on scene.
Jeff Simpson, chief deputy with the Bleckley County Sherif Office, says they don't believe the death is a homicide at this time.
Cotton gins like this one generally run 24-7 during the busy fall harvest.
They're less busy during the spring and summer harvest.
Five years ago they told us they processed about 7,000 tons of cotton a year.
We reached out to the owners of the Cochran Oil Mill and Ginnery. They've not returned our calls.
