MACON, Ga. — If you are planning to drive in downtown Macon on Sunday, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office wants you to be aware of some temporary closures as the county holds its downtown Christmas Parade.
While the parade starts at 4 p.m., the sheriff's office says the first road closures start much earlier than that.
Mulberry and First Street will be the first to shut down at 8 a.m., which is near the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.
More roads will close at 11 a.m — that includes MLK Jr. Boulevard. It will be closed from Walnut Street near Mercer Medical Center and the downtown Capital City Bank to Poplar Street right near Raffield Tire Master and Capricorn.
Additionally, Cherry Street will be closed from 5th Street — near the Macon Transit Authority — all the way to First Street near the Macon City Auditorium and Hotel 45.
At that same intersection, First Street will be closed from Cherry Street to Mulberry Street near First Presbyterian Church Macon.
Mulberry Street will also be blocked from the intersection at First Street to MLK Jr. Boulevard.
According to the Sheriff's Office, signs will be posted along the parade route telling drivers to not park in those areas. Drivers will be able to park in those spots again once the parade is over.
Chris Floore with Macon-Bibb County communications says the parade will go on rain or shine.
