Man, 59, seriously injured after Macon shooting, suspect arrested, sheriff's office says

They say the suspect originally refused to turn himself in, but after the SWAT team converged on the home, he surrendered to authorities.

MACON, Ga. — A man was arrested in Macon on Monday after allegedly shooting a 59-year-old man near Napier Avenue, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

They say Larry Christopher Baker, 36, was arrested on Monday in connection to the shooting. The sheriff's office says the shooting happened in the 900 block of Hillcrest Boulevard at around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon.

They say the victim is still at the hospital and is currently listed in critical condition

When authorities honed in on Baker as a suspect later on Monday, they attempted to arrest him at a residence in the 3400 block of Shenandoah Drive, but he refused to exit the home, the sheriff's office said.

But after the sheriff's office SWAT Team and Gang Unit prepared to execute a search warrant, Baker peacefully surrendered and was arrested, the press release says. Authorities say they also found a gun in the residence.

Now, they say Baker is charged with aggravated assault and is in custody at the Bibb County jail.

The shooting is still under investigation. If you have any information, you can call the sheriff's office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
