MACON, Ga. — Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful held its annual Ocmulgee Heritage Trail cleanup on Saturday.
Hundreds on volunteers put on their safety vests, grabbed their trash bags and picked up their trash grabbers in an effort to clean up various locations around Ocmulgee. This was for Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful 19th annual Ocmulgee cleanup.
50 people were stationed at Heritage Trail, LH Williams Elementary and Burdell Hunt Elementary. While all cleaned along the trail or streets, many people who or worked on LH Williams and Burdell Hunt cleaned up the bushes and pathways so students can have an easier time walking to school.
At the trail specifically, many people found unique items in the river and alongside the trail. Volunteers found tires, pallets, mattresses, bikes, shopping cars, suitcases and even toasters.
All volunteers received a t-shirt after completing the cleanup.
The group is planning on eventually holding a paper shredding America's thrift stores event and a recycling event. For anyone looking to volunteer, they can sign up on their website.
