Hundreds flock to health events in Warner Robins and Macon to promote child safety in cars

The event held on Saturday promoted car and booster seat use in an effort to promote safety. They also gave away several free car seats to those in need.

MACON, Ga. — As nearly every parent knows, nothing is more important than the safety of their own child.

Safe Kids Worldwide shares that sentiment and held an event to help parents and guardians keep their kids safe while on the road.

Safe Kids Houston County and Macon-Bibb teamed up with State Farm to host Good Neighbor Car Seat Safety Events in both Warner Robins and Macon on Saturday.

The gave out around 50 car seats to help serve about 40 families at each event. This was in the groups efforts to lower the risk of possible injuries in accidents and car crashes. According to numbers Safe Kids Worldwide put out, car seats reduce the risk of fatal injuries by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

The seats were available at no cost for those that are in need of one and made an appointment ahead of time. Any car seats left over were given out to those in need on a first come, first served basis.

The seats included infant carriers, convertible car seats, combination seats and booster seats.

The health fair itself brought out around 400 people, and through safety technicians, helped many people learn how to keep kids safe while on the road.

Several organizations were also there. They include:

  • Peach State Health Plan
  • Care Source
  • Family Advancement Ministries
  • Resilient Middle Georgia
  • Laurel Heights
  • Macon AIM
  • Pentatonic Therapies
  • Mother’s Nest
  • Project Aware
  • Abbott
  • First Choice

Alongside the several organizations, there were also bouncy houses, a game truck and Nuway was there selling hotdogs and other food.

The event ran from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
