Macon County students arrested after overnight shooting at school, police say

They say no one was injured in the shooting. The school released early on Friday after learning about the shooting.

MACON COUNTY, Ga. — Three Macon County students have been charged in connection to an overnight shooting at Macon County High School, according to a Facebook post from the Montezuma Police Department.

They say two 17-year-olds have been arrested in connection with Friday's shooting. One of them was charged with obstruction and conspiracy to commit a crime. The other 17-year-old was also charged with criminal damage to property, firing a gun near the highway, having weapons within a school zone, criminal trespassing and theft.

The post says a 15-year-old was also arrested for his involvement with the shooting. He has been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime.

Both of the 17-year-olds live together in Montezuma, the report says.

The post says the officers responded to a call about property damage at Macon High School around 6:03 a.m. on Friday. When they got there, the officers realized the entrance to the building had been shot.

They say the school was placed on lockdown for arriving students, and prior 13WMAZ reporting said the school was released early that day.

No students or staff were at the school when the shooting happened, per the report.

According to the report, officers tracked the teenagers using Flock Camera technology and located several guns at their home - one of which was stolen.

The two older boys are being transferred to Macon County Jail, and the 15-year-old will be held at a Youth Detention Center.

This incident is under further investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Georgia Department of Corrections and the Macon County Sheriff's Office.
