JONES COUNTY, Ga. — Update:
The Twiggs County Sheriff's Office confirms that the southbound lane of traffic has been reopened at around 7:40 p.m. after a log-truck's axel fell off, causing the truck to crash and shutdown traffic.
Original:
A log truck lost its part load and has shut down a portion of Gray Highway in Jones County, according to the Jones County Sheriff's Office.
It happened near Joycliff Road, and it shut down the southbound side of Gray Highway.
The rear axle on the log truck came off and that caused the truck to crash and fall into a ditch, an officer on scene said. Because of that, it lost a load of its logs.
As of 7:30 p.m., the lanes are still closed on the southbound side.
The sheriff's office said that they are still working to clear traffic and are working to pull the truck out of the ditch and get it upright.
They said that there are logs in the median and they might be in the median overnight. However, they say that they believe the lanes will be reopened Thursday.
But as of now, drivers should avoid the area.
This is a developing story. We will provide more details as they become available.
