LAURENS COUNTY, Ga. — All eastbound lanes of I-16 in Laurens County were shut down Wednesday evening after a car hauler caught on fire, according to a Facebook post from the Laurens County Sheriff's Office. As of 10:35 p.m., one of two lanes had reopened.
But the Laurens County Sheriff's Office is advising people to avoid the area.
The Georgia Department of Transportation's 511 website said the incident started at 9:23 p.m. Wednesday night. It happened near the State Route 19 exit.
The fire happened near mile marker 56 and the Laurens County Sheriff's Office says the department of transportation is redirecting traffic onto highway 441 at Exit 51.
They encourage drivers to take alternative routes.
"Please avoid the area and expect delays," the sheriff's office said.
This is a developing story. We will provide more information when it becomes available.
