HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Houston County home was heavily damaged in a Tuesday night fire, according to a press release from the Houston County Fire Department.
Fire chief Chris Stoner says the fire happened within the 1800 block of South Houston Lake Road in Kathleen.
The 911 call came from a resident at around 9:30 p.m. reporting a fire above their garage, the press release says.
But when crews arrived six minutes later at 9:36 p.m., they found "heavy fire conditions in the attic of the home," the release said.
After the fire was extinguished, the press release suggests the roof and upper floors are largely unsalvageable after sustaining "heavy fire damage." But they say lower floors may be able to be saved.
All residents were able to get out of the home before the fire crews arrived and no injuries were reported, the press release said.
They say fire investigators are still working to figure out what caused the fire.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the occupants as they deal with this loss and begin their recovery," Stoner said in the press release.
A section of South Hoston Lake Road between South Walker and South Tammie Circle was closed because of the fire, but the lanes have since been reopened, the press release said.
