MACON, Ga. — It’s that time of year, just like in years past, we need your help to Stuff the Truck!
The simple definition of food insecurity is simply a person who doesn’t know where their next meal will come from to put on the table.
At our Stuff the Truck event in 2022, many told us they gave because, at one time, they were food insecure.
Other folks said they knew Central Georgia has thousands of hungry children.
The need is always there, and this year, there are financial factors that have made things.
The number of folks requesting food is down but in 24 Central Georgia counties covered by the food bank. There are still 85,000 people in need.
This a heartbreaking statistic, even more so when you learn that it includes 27,000 children.
The goal is to collect food donations to supply food for 140 food pantries in our 24-county area. It also provides fresh food for the School Backpack program. Last year’s Stuff the Truck drive collected a record 29,463 pounds of food.
Stuff the Truck will be even bigger this year.
This fall schools across Central Georgia including private and public schools, are doing food drives to help stuff the truck.
And we're making it easier for you to get in on the giving.
You'll find those food bank donation boxes in more places, too - at Walmarts in Macon, Warner Robins, Dublin and Milledgeville.
13WMAZ is partnering with the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank to help feed families in our community throughout the holiday season, but we can’t do it alone. We’re going to need you to get involved to make it happen.
Because between all of us, we can bridge the gap around the holidays and help our neighbors.
Your donations will make it into the hands and stomachs of those who really need them.
You can also support the mission by donating money to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank online here, or by texting TRUCK to 478-752-1309.
We hope to see you at our locations and thank you for your in-person contribution.
They will be parked in front of the Walmart stores at the times listed below.
