WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Stuffing is a Thanksgiving staple for many families, and our 13WMAZ family is no different; but of course, the stuffing we're talking about is 'Stuffing' the Truck!
Wednesday, folks across Central Georgia had a chance to donate non-perishable food at two Walmart locations in Macon and Warner Robins. It all goes toward helping food-insecure Central Georgians.
To stuff a truck, you have to stuff a few pallets. To stuff a truck right, there's also a fair bit of work involved. To really do it right, the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank needs some help from folks like you!
"This'll be my third year," said George Dobney after he donated. "I like to donate, to help out people who are food insecure."
Many donated for personal reasons, like Carmen Castaneda.
"I understand what it's like to feel hungry, so I give back when I can," she said.
Others just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Dean Flenta was on his fifth shopping trip of the day when we caught up with him.
"I'm very fortunate, and I don't like to see other people going hungry. So, I figured, bank account could use a little lightening," Flenta said.
The food bank says any little bit helps, and it definitely adds up. They say Wednesday's donations will go toward feeding thousands.
"We have over 30,000 children who are food insufficient. We have almost 97,000 adults," said Mike Reeves with the food bank.
At the Warner Robins location alone, we stuffed over 25 bins of food, and two semi trucks! Some of the food will stay overnight at the Walmart on Watson Boulevard because it won't fit on the second truck. Our Macon location did well too. They stuffed about a truck-and-a-half!
Middle Georgia Community Food Bank says anyone qualifies to get food at one of their food pantries. To find the one closest to you, head to their website.
