Forsyth Police Department and city hold 1st annual Fun Day

The event offered food, family fun and even a law enforcement car show for free.

FORSYTH, Ga. — The Forsyth Police Department already planned on hosting a family fun day on Saturday, but city officials loved the idea so much, they decided to jump in, too!

The result was the city's First Annual Fun Day, and downtown Forsyth was certainly full of fun.

Families of all ages came out to enjoy the festivities, but also how to stay safe.

They had bouncy houses, a law enforcement car show, free food and big screens for college football. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office was even on hand with a driving simulator for teens to test their knowledge behind the wheel.

Chief Woodrow Blue, when he was elected to lead the Forsyth Police Department, was adamant about having his lieutenants get out into the community. This event did just that, as the Forsyth community had an opportunity to interact with those who work to protect and serve in the community.

Lt. Kimberly Barnett with the Forsyth Police Department added it's all to help build connections in the community and bring the city together.

They made two messages to the community: that they're to support the community and they aren't just about emergencies or dire situations.

Many of the organizations in attendance included:

  • Department of family and children services
  • MADD Georgia, no more victims
  • Making beer fire department
  • Georgia Public Safety Training Center
  • Advance auto parts
  • State Farm
  • Trial life, USA
  • The Pregnancy and Family Life center
  • Boys and Girls Club
  • Boy Scout club
  • Georgia State patrol
  • Various officers, who prepared hotdogs for attendees
  • Altec, who lifted people into the air to catch a sky view
