Dedication ceremony held in memory of Baldwin County teacher who died in 2016

The Baldwin School District held a ceremony to rename an intersection in memory of Kathryn Poff, who died in a car accident.

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ga. — Kathryn Poff was only 27 years old when she died in a car accident in 2016, one day after her birthday.

Six years later, the Baldwin County School district held a dedication ceremony in her memory.

On Saturday, the intersection of Blandy Road and Highway 49, where the accident happened, was renamed the "Kathryn Poff Memorial Intersection."

Poff was a music teacher at Treutlen County Elementary School, New Holland Elementary School, and Creekside Elementary School, now Lakeview Primary.

She was a loved member of the staff, and at a vigil for her, Pastor Marty Dillon described Poff as fun, faithful and devoted to her family.

Her funeral service was held on March 21 of 2016, and Wanda Bittick, who organized the vigil, said that she was loved by students and staff alike.

"Everything she did here, she did out of the kindness of her heart," says Bittick. "These kids loved her enough that they were all there for her funeral in Gainesville on Monday."

Now, she will be forever remembered when people pass by Blandy Road and Highway 49.

A large sign dedicates the intersection in her memory, so she will always be known by the community of Milledgeville.
