In March 2016, Kathryn Poff, a music teacher at Creekside Elementary in Milledgeville, was killed in an accident on Highway 49.
Thursday, Creekside was honored for their parental engagement video, which was created by Poff and some of her students.
Georgia superintendent Richard Woods visited the school to congratulate them for winning this year's statewide Parent Engagement Video Contest.
The two-minute video showcases parents talking about how they stay involved with their children at school and students talking about how their parents help or how they would like their parents to help.
Baldwin County Superintendent Noris Price says that Poff was an amazing teacher and the video was amazing.
"Ms. Kathryn Poff was a music teacher here at Creekside, and while still a very new educator, she showed incredible promise and potential as an educator. One of the reasons this video was so well received is that you can sense her passion," said Price.
The video was one of two that won the contest, along with Bernd Elementary in Macon, by getting the most views and likes on Facebook.
Poff was 27 years old and in her third year teaching at Creekside.
