Saturday night, family, friends and students came together at Mary Persons High School to honor Kathryn Poff.

Poff was a music teacher killed in a car accident on Highway 49 on March 17, the day after her 27th birthday.

She taught at Creekside Elementary in Milledgeville and volunteered regularly at Mary Persons.

Students paid tribute by performing a songs, reading poems and sharing special memories.

Pastor Marty Dillon spoke, describing Poff as fun, faithful and devoted to her family.

Her parents, twin sister, grandparents, and her boyfriend -- the band director at Mary Persons -- were there.

Wanda Bittick and Stacey Leibensperger organized the candlelight vigil to allow students to pay their respects.

"Everything she did here, she did out of the kindness of her heart," says Bittick. "These kids loved her enough that they were all there for her funeral in Gainesville on Monday."

"She just touched everybody," adds Leibensperger, "Her smile just lit up the room. There are some stories the kids have told about silly little conversations they've had with her. A lot of them have talked about the impact of music that she left with them, and that's something they'll carry with them forever."

Kathryn Poff's funeral service was Monday, March 21 at Gainesville First Church of the Nazarene.
