MACON, Ga. — Thursday was the final day of 13WMAZ's 2024 Stuff the Truck event, and the Central Georgia community made sure to make the most of it.
Hundreds of people from the area showed up to both the Warner Robins and Macon locations to give back to their community. Some brought cans, others volunteered and everyone got involved in Stuff the Truck.
Some Central Georgia schools raised hundreds of cans for Stuff the Truck 2024. Cirrus Academy says they donated 900 cans to the holiday cause.
Ryan Amadoudakayoko is a student at Cirrus Academy. He says his school loves to give back to the community.
“To help those in need and support those that are in trouble with food and other things,” he said.
Kaila Lucas from Westside High School says it's the community's duty to help one another out.
“We think it is just important to give back to our community, because they constantly pour into us for our sports teams, for our clubs, and donations and everything," she said. "It is only right to give back and just show our support for our community."
Lucas says she is part of Westside's Future Business Leaders group. She says they have been donating cans to feed Central Georgia.
“Recently, we went to the food banks and packed 420 boxes for the senior citizens, so we just think it is important,” she said.
In Warner Robins, volunteers and schools and ministries supported the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.
Houston County High School collected almost 3,000 items.
Bailee Smith lives in Warner Robins and her company gives them the opportunity to volunteer. She says she decided to volunteer and says it was very rewarding.
“I think it's good to get involved in your community and make a difference," she said. "Just to help out people who might not have as good as a holiday season as we might have."
