'It's important to look out for each other' | Milledgeville folks share why they donate to Stuff the Truck

It was Day 1 of 13WMAZ's Stuff the Truck 2024 event and people in Milledgeville are giving to people in need

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Since 6 a.m. when the Walmart opened, people in Milledgeville told 13WMAZ they donated food because they wanted to help people.

Before class, Baldwin High School student-athletes joined in on the fight against hunger. Senior basketball squad cheerleader Kody Reese says he wanted to show his school spirit.

"That's what our cheer team is all about giving back to the community, sharing things that we love to do," Reese said.

Reese says he is grateful to be fortunate. Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Noris Price says some of Reese's peers are not as fortunate.

"In Baldwin County, 30% of the children suffer from food insecurity so they benefit greatly from events like this," Price said.

The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank is accepting all kinds of non-perishable items. Items they're looking for are cereal, granola bars, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables.

Annie Miller owns a daycare in Milledgeville. She says when parents don't have enough, she makes sure the kids and their parents are taken care of.

"When I have leftovers and stuff I make sure they get it," Miller said. "It's important to look out for each other."

Miller says she wanted to donate because it was the right thing to do.

"Everyone should be able to have a hot meal, or be able to eat something and not be hungry," Miller said.

13WMAZ and the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank will be at the Walmart locations in Dublin, Macon, and Warner Robins this week. Find the address and time here.
