UPDATE: Man shot, killed near downtown Macon identified

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Michael Whitaker Jr., according to Bibb Coroner Leon Jones.

MACON, Ga. — UPDATE, 8:13 p.m.:

The victim has been identified as Michael Whitaker Jr., according to Bibb Coroner Leon Jones.

Jones says Whitaker was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m.

Bibb deputies are investigating after a man was shot and killed on Concord Street near downtown Macon just before 6:30 p.m. Monday evening.

That's according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. 

According to Bibb Coroner Leon Jones, the 45-year-old man died from multiple gunshot wounds at the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

This case is still under investigation and the victim's name is not being released at this time.
