MACON, Ga. — A Macon man accused of violently murdering his wife in September 2015 has been found not guilty after a jury trial.
Willis Roberts was arrested back in March 2016 and charged with the murder of his wife, Crystal Walker.
She was found unresponsive by family members in her apartment at Glenwood Village Apartments on Gray Highway.
Coroner Leon Jones concluded Walker ultimately died from multiple blunt force trauma and sharp force injuries.
During a March 23, 2016, hearing, investigators presented evidence to a judge, who determined the case should go to trial.
In the hearing, witnesses said the couple was arguing over money and Investigator Markus Baker said Roberts told them he hid Walker’s car after the incident.
"He told several coworkers prior to the incident that he was in fact going to kill his wife," said Baker. "She was beaten, her skull was crushed, there were lacerations and crush marks all over her body. It appeared there was an attempt to sever her head. She had stab wounds just all over her.”
When asked what he thought about the acquittal, District Attorney David Cooke said, “We knew that this was a difficult case going in, but we did all that we could to get justice for Crystal. While we respect the jury’s verdict, there’s no doubt in my mind that if we had it to do over again, we would still fight for her and give all that we could just like this time.”
