Gas station in Irwin County burned down after Tropical Storm Helene-related fire, EMA director says

No injuries are currently reported

IRWIN COUNTY, Ga. — A Circle K gas station in Irwin County caught fire during Tropical Storm Helene, Irwin County EMA Director Brandon Fletcher said.

Fletcher said the gas station, located on North Irwin Avenue in Ocilla, Georgia, caught on fire caused by the storms brought on by Helene. He said it happened around 2 a.m. early Friday morning. 

Fletcher said no injuries have been reported, and the fire is under investigation. At this time they do not know what caused the fire.

Four people are confirmed dead in Central Georgia due to the storm. 

Laurens County EMA Director Bill Laird said one person died after a tree fell down onto their house and another died in a car crash. Wheeler County Coroner Ted Mercer said two people died after a suspected tornado flipped a mobile home.

Helene has recently been downgraded to a tropical storm as it continues to move through Georgia. There is damage spread across Central Georgia, with trees and power lines down and power is out in several counties.
