Hurricane Helene | These Central Georgia shelters are opening their doors ahead of Helene

As Hurricane Helene approaches, here is the current list of shelters in Central Georgia

MACON, Ga. — Hurricane Helene draws ever closer to Central Georgia.

As it nears, people may be looking for a shelter to stay in to help weather the storm. 

Here are six shelters in Central Georgia that have opened up to house homeless residents and/or those fleeing the storm.  

List of Hurricane shelters in Central Georgia

Homeless Shelter at No Limit Baptist Church

Located: 1352 Radio Loop in Warner Robins

Further Details: The church is welcoming in the homeless population of Warner Robins and anyone that needs shelter amidst the storm. Brian Wise will round up people before the shelter opens up around 6 p.m. on Thursday. They're only taking in homeless residents.

Rigby's Entertainment Complex

Located: 2001 Karl Drive in Warner Robins

Further Details: The entertainment center is offering shelter overnight on Thursday and is open for all family members. Pets are welcome, but owners were encouraged to bring a crate if their pets are aggressive or afraid of storms. They recommended for people to bring their own pillows, blankets and various comfort items to help settle in overnight. 

New Beginnings Outreach Ministries

Located: 200 Southside Drive in Milledgeville

Further Details: Baldwin County Manager Carlos Tobar said they are opening a Good Samaritan shelter at a old building that was once Southside Elementary School. This shelter also appears to be open to anyone seeking a place to stay. 

High Falls Station 2

Located: 3901 High Falls Road in Jackson, Georgia

Further Details: One of the four shelters, which are open to anyone who needs shelter or higher ground, opened up by the Monroe County Emergency Services. Was also opened alongside the locations at Providence Baptist Church, the Monroe Recreation Department and Culloden City hall. This is the only shelter in Monroe County that is accepting pets, however they must be in a crate or kennel.

Monroe Recreation Department

Located: 100 Dan Pitts Drive in Forsyth

Further Details: Like the other Monroe County Emergency Service shelters, Culloden City Hall is open for anyone.

Providence Baptist Church

Located: 2560 Highway 41 South in Forsyth

Further Details: Opened at 4 p.m. on Thursday and will remain open until 5 p.m. on Friday for anyone that needs somewhere to take shelter. Can call them at 478-994-2545.

Culloden City Hall

Located: 9 College Street in Culloden, Georgia

Further Details: Like the other Monroe County Emergency Service shelters, Culloden City Hall is open for anyone.

Matthews-Scippio Impact Center

Located: 1000 Tulip Drive in Fort Valley

Further Details: Set up for "those currently displaced on the streets." The doors open at 5 p.m. on Thursday and dinner will be served

Cadwell Baptist Church

Located: 2872 GA-117 in Cadwell, Georgia

Further Details: The church will be opened up at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday to anyone who wishes to take shelter there. They recommended bringing pillows, blankets and medications.

New Union Baptist Church

Located: 1112 New Union Church Road in Eastman, Georgia

Further Details: The church is open for anyone looking to take shelter from the incoming hurricane.
