MACON, Ga. — The 13WMAZ weather team officially issued a Weather Impact Alert on Tuesday for all of Thursday and Friday morning, ahead of Hurricane Helene hitting Central Georgia.
The storm grew into a Category 4 hurricane when it makes landfall and remained as a Category 2 hurricane when it reached Central Georgia
As such, counties are beginning to announce school closures. As more are announced, 13WMAZ will update this story.

Academy Classical Education
- Cancelation Dates: Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27
- All after school activities were canceled on Thursday; they are hoping to keep homecoming activities for Friday.
Baldwin County
- Cancellation dates: Early dismissal on Thursday, Sept. 26, closed on Friday, Sept. 27
- Students will be released early on Thursday at a currently unknown time; schools are waiting on finalizing the bus schedule
- All after school activities will be canceled on Thursday. No school on Friday
Bibb County
- Cancellation Dates: All Bibb County Schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27
- All after school programs and athletic events are canceled.
Bleckley County
- Cancellation Dates: Closed on Friday, Sept. 27
- School is closed for "the safety of all students, staff and families"
- Home football game against Jefferson County, as of now, to go on as scheduled
Brentwood School
- Cancellation Dates: Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27
Central Fellowship Christian Academy
- Cancellation Dates: Closed on Friday, Sept. 27
Central Georgia Technical College
- Cancellation Dates: Closing early on Thursday, Sept. 26 and remaining closed on Friday, Sept. 27
- The college will close early at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, and remain closed on Friday.
Cirrus Academy Charter School
- Cancellation Dates: Campus will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27
- Classes are still being conducted remotely
- Students will be sent home with a packet to be completed over the weekend
Covenant Academy
- Cancellation Dates: Closing early on Thursday, Sept. 26, and remaining closed on Friday, Sept. 27
- Grammar school and student drivers will release at noon, while upper school students will release at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday.
- There will be no lunches, extended day, aftercare, or extracurricular activities on Thursday.
- There is no school on Friday.
Crawford County
- Cancellation dates: Early dismissal on Thursday, Sept. 26, closed on Friday
- Students will be dismissed early on Thursday at 1 p.m.
- School will be closed on Friday, but students will be given written assignments for a distance learning day
Crisp County
- Cancellation dates: Early dismissal on Thursday, Sept. 26, closed on Friday
- Preschools will release at 11:30, primary and elementary schools will release at 12 p.m. and middle and high schools will release early at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
- All schools will be closed on Friday
Dodge County
- Cancellation Dates: Closed Friday, Sept. 27
Dooly County
- Cancellation Dates: Thursday, Sept. 26 and Friday, Sept. 27
- All students, faculty and staff should not report to school on Thursday and Friday
- All after-school activities are canceled, with the Dooly County vs Montgomery County football game being moved to Saturday, Sept. 28
Dublin City Schools
- Cancellation Dates: Friday, Sept. 27
- Schools will remain open on Thursday, but after school activities for both Thursday and Friday have been canceled. "Staff may work from home."
- Dublin City School Nutrition staff is preparing a bagged meal with one breakfast meal and one lunch meal for students to take home this afternoon.
First Presbyterian Day School
- Cancellation Dates: Early release on Thursday, Sept. 26, closed on Friday, Sept. 27
- School will dismiss early on Thursday.
- The lower school will get out at 11:45 a.m. and the upper school will release at 12:15 p.m.
- FPD is closed to students and staff on Friday
- A Thursday night volleyball game has been rescheduled to Monday, and a Friday night football game has been rescheduled to Saturday
Fort Valley State University
- Cancellation Dates: Classes and events suspended early on Thursday, Sept. 26, closed on Friday, Sept. 27
- All classes and various events will be closed after 2 p.m. on Thursday

Tattnall Square Academy
