MACON, Ga. — The United States Drought Monitor just released its latest update Thursday morning and it comes with good news for Central Georgia.

All of our counties that were left in some abnormally dry conditions as of last week are now completely alleviated of dry conditions whatsoever. We are back to normal conditions after Tropical Storm Debby and our scattered summertime showers replenished the ground.

Each Drought monitor update is recorded every Tuesday, but not released until the following Thursday. So each week we get a new update, it doesn't take into account rain from the previous Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tropical Storm Debby brought more rain last Tuesday to Central Georgia, and continued later in the week for areas on the Atlantic coast. That's why many areas of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are now back to normal.

Parts of north Georgia and the metro Atlanta area along with counties along the Chattahoochee River in west Georgia are still under abnormally dry conditions. A few tiny areas in the northwest corner of Georgia are in a moderate drought still as well.

The severe and extreme drought conditions are far away in West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, and Maryland and farther out west in the Southern Plains.
