MACON, Ga. — In the newest update to the U.S. Drought Monitor, a few counties have been removed from drought conditions entirely, but some dry remain dry.
A moderate drought is still the story in all of Bleckley and Twiggs counties, along with parts off Taylor, Macon, Peach, Houston, Pulaski, Dodge, Wilkinson, Baldwin, Jones, Monroe, Jasper, Putnam, and Washington counties.
Dooly and Crawford counties along with parts of Macon, Taylor, Wilcox, Laurens, Pulaski, Dodge, Johnson, Wilkinson, Washington, Bibb, Monroe, Baldwin, and Hancock counties are under abnormally dry conditions.
Due to the rain from the past week, counties including parts of Crisp, Wilcox, Dodge, Laurens, Johnson, Washington, Hancock, Putnam, and Taylor counties are still regarded as normal.
All of Telfair, Upson, Wheeler, Montgomery, and Treutlen counties have been alleviated entirely from drought conditions.
It was a historically dry June, as only a third of an inch of rain was recorded in Macon. The extremely dry weather made the past month the driest June on record.
However, the month of July has been quite the opposite with plenty of rain all around central Georgia.
More scattered rain is in the forecast for the days ahead, to hopefully continue to get rid of these drought conditions
Most of the country still remains under relatively the same drought conditions.
So we have been quite fortunate compared to many others to have received the rain we have the past week.
